3 days National Level Workshop
In order to provide a platform for learn techniques in Grammar – particularly Direct Speech and Indirect Speech, The Department of English conducted a 3 days National Level Workshop on “ Direct Speech and Indirect Speech” . The workshop was scheduled from 22nd June 2020 to 24th June 2020 on Google Meet platform from 10.30 AM to 11.30 AM. Ms. Nagasri S Assistant Professor of English conducted the workshop for Associate Professors, Assistant Professors, Teachers, Research Scholars and students from various parts of India. Various people were tried to reach through the poster of the Workshops. Mr. Sujendra Y, Office Superintendent created a poster for the event. The poster along with the google forms (related to registration) was posted on Whats App, Instagram and Facebook pages.
The registration link was open from 17 June 2020 to 20 June 2020. 1004 members from Karnataka, Tamilnadu, Telangana, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Maharastra, Rajastan, Odisha, Gujarath, had registered to participate in the workshop. The registered participants were communicated through Whatsapp by creating 2 groups. The link for the sessions, rules to be followed during sessions, timings, feedback link and other communications was held in the designated Whatsapp groups.
The session on 22nd June 2020 was initiated by the welcome address by Ms. Dhanalakshmi.R, Assistant Librarian and Ms.Sukshma, Assistant Professor, Department of Computer Science gave the instructions to all the participants. Ms.Savitha, Assistant Professor, Department of Computer Science rendered the technical assistance on all the 3 days of Workshop. The first session (22nd June 2020) of the workshop witnessed 164 participants from various parts of India. Ms.Nagasri. S. focused on the basic explanations related to Direct and Indirect Speech – Usage of Direct and Indirect Speech in various contexts, Reporting verb, Rules regarding Tenses and Reporting verbs to convert from Direct to Indirect Speech. The participants had an opportunity to learn by actively participating in the activities during the session. Last 10 minutes of the session was reserved for the discussions and feedback of the particular session.
On 23rd June 2020, 155 members participated in the session. Due to some technical issues, few participants could not be allowed to be a part of the session. Initially, a quick recap of the previous session was held to revise the rules learnt during the first session. The second session of the workshop concentrated on rules pertaining to – changing personal pronouns, possessives, words related to place and time (adverbs). The participants actively participated during the sessions and discussions held during the last 10 minutes of the session.
The last session of the workshop was held on 24 June 2020 and the session witnessed 167 participants including students from Kendriya Vidyalaya (who did not pre-register). The session concentrated on rules pertaining to different forms of sentences – assertive, interrogative, imperative, exclamatory and the sentences beginning from ‘let’.
The feedback session was held for about 25 minutes and the participants expressed that they are completely satisfied and wished to be part of more workshops like this. They wholeheartedly praised both the workshop and the Resource person ( Ms.Nagasri.S.). The participants also requested to conduct more workshops on Grammar topics in future. Many participants expressed their views directly on the same platform. Ms.Nagasri.S. concluded the session by a thanking note.
A feedback link was sent to all the participants through e mail. The participants received the participation certificate through their registered e mail by submitting the feedback forms.
