5 DAYS FACULTY DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM

The IQAC of Hindustan College organized a five-day Faculty Development Program (FDP) on “Advanced Resource Skills and Methodologies for Academic Excellence” from 13th to 18th January 2025. The program aimed to equip faculty members with essential research skills, enhance their academic writing capabilities, and familiarize them with contemporary methodologies in scholarly publishing.

Day 1: 13th January 2025

The program commenced with an inaugural session led by Dr. Venkat Prasad, Associate Professor of Economics and Chairperson of SDM College, Mysuru. His insightful address focused on identifying research problems, structuring research frameworks, and selecting appropriate methods for data collection and analysis. The afternoon session shifted attention to “Ethics and Integrity in Academic Research”, where Dr. Lohit, IQAC Coordinator at the University of Mysore, highlighted the significance of maintaining ethical standards and integrity in scholarly work.

Day 2: 15th January 2025
The second day explored on “Interdisciplinary Research Writing and Publishing Challenges”. Dr. A. M. Sudhakara, Director of Cyber Labs, shared his expertise on overcoming obstacles in interdisciplinary research and scholarly publishing. Later in the day, Dr. Shanmugasundaram, Professor, Department of Biotechnology, Hindustan College of Arts and Science, elaborated on “Advanced Research Writing Strategies”, offering valuable insights into effective publication techniques.

Day 3: 16th January 2025
A deeper understanding of “Research Proposals and Securing Grants” was provided by Prof. K. B. Ramappa, Head of the Department and former Director of Agricultural Development and Rural Transformation at the Institute of Social and Economic Change, Bangalore. His session shed light on best practices for grant writing and funding opportunities. The afternoon session introduced participants to “Hands-on Training in Statistical Analysis using SPSS”, where Dr. Lakshmi Narayanan, Associate Professor of Quantitative Methods at SBM, IMD College, Mysore, guided faculty through practical applications of statistical tools in research.

Day 4: 17th January 2025
The fourth day of the FDP emphasized Strategies for “Publishing in High-Impact Journals”, with Dr. K. N. Amrutesh, Director of IQSC at the University of Mysore, sharing key techniques for successful academic publishing. Later, the focus shifted to “Patents and Intellectual Property Rights in Academic Research”, where Dr. Elizabeth Rani, Dean, Department of Biotechnology, Hindustan College of Arts and Science, provided an overview of intellectual property protection and its relevance in academic research.

Day 5: 18th January 2025

On the final day, Dr. Girish M.C., Associate Professor, Department of Commerce, Government College, Mandya, addressed the topic of “Transforming Conference Papers into Journal Articles”, offering practical guidance on refining academic papers for publication in reputed journals.

The FDP concluded with a valedictory session in the afternoon, attended by Mr. Abel Mathew Prasad, Special Officer of Hindustan College. Faculty members shared their feedback, reflecting on the valuable knowledge gained over the five days. Certificates of participation were distributed, marking the successful completion of the program.

The FDP proved to be an enriching experience, providing faculty with practical insights into research methodologies, publishing strategies, and academic integrity. The sessions fostered intellectual growth and professional development, further strengthening the institution’s commitment to academic excellence.
